(Luxembourg, 26 March 2025) – Today, the European Chief Prosecutor informed the European Parliament, the Council of the EU, and the European Commission that the College of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) has decided to open an administrative enquiry into possible wrongdoing by the Bulgarian European Prosecutor in the framework of an ongoing EPPO investigation.

The responsibility for the assessment of the information at the origin of this administrative enquiry in relation to the independence of the European Prosecutor lies with the European Parliament, the Council of the EU, and the European Commission. It is an essential requirement for the initial appointment of European Prosecutors and for their ability to perform their duties during their time in office.

The independence of all our prosecutors is one of the core values of the EPPO, which is essential to the discharge of our mission.

The European Prosecutors are appointed by the Council of the EU.

The EPPO is the independent public prosecution office of the European Union. Itis responsible for investigating, prosecuting and bringing to judgment crimes against the financial interests of the EU.
