European Prosecutor

Ursula Schmudermayer spent nine years as a public prosecutor leading criminal investigation proceedings and presenting charges in main trials, before three years in a new field of activity as a prosecutor at the Directorate for International and European Justice Affairs at Austria’s Ministry of Justice. In 2016, she joined the Central Public Prosecutor’s Office for Combatting Economic Crime and Corruption in Vienna, where she focused on international cooperation in criminal matters – especially investigations involving cross-border crime, money laundering and asset recovery. Her advanced studies in economic crime and financial investigations in Austria and France, as well as her experience in European criminal law, drew her attention to the genesis of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, to which she dedicated her master’s thesis and several publications. In June 2023, she was appointed European Prosecutor from Austria by the Council of the EU.
